Major League Baseball’s awards were finally announced this week. Let’s discuss how the Yankees fared! Gold Glove Award No Yankees were named Gold Glove Award winners. They had three finalists, though! Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge, and Masahiro Tanaka were among the three finalists in left field, right field, and the pitcher spots, respectively. Tanaka was the only one that I think had a real chance. I think he actually should have won. Judge was never going to beat out Mookie Betts. It was Betts’ year. Gardner maybe could have won in left, but the writers ultimately went with Alex Gordon...

Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez underwent left shoulder debridement surgery earlier this week. The injured shoulder reportedly had been bothering Sanchez since 2017, and it started flaring up again this offseason so the Yanks decided to pull the trigger on just getting the surgery. The expected recovery time for this procedure is supposed to be three months, putting Gary in line to return to baseball around early-mid February, although Cashman played it safe and just said (I’m paraphrasing) that he’ll almost certainly be ready for opening day. Kinda has to play it safe after the “Aaron Judge will return in three...

The New York Yankees agreed to a one year deal with 38-year-old lefty CC Sabathia. The deal is reportedly worth $8 million for his final season and will contain no incentives. It sounds like CC learned his lesson with incentives after the “that’s for you, bitch!” game. The big fella was adamant about wanting to return to the Yanks, where he is among the longest-tenured players with Brett Gardner. He is one of the biggest leaders in any clubhouse in baseball, and he has my unconditional love forever. As many as three non-Yankees teams reportedly reached out to Sabathia. Ken...

The New York Yankees agreed to terms with Brett Gardner on a one-year deal worth $7.5 million for 2019 on Wednesday. Oct. 31 was the deadline to decide what to do about the team option on Gardy’s contract. The Yankees had two options: Pick up the team option: Brett Gardner earns $12.5 million for the 2019 season Decline the team option: Brett Gardner receives a $2 million buyout and becomes a free agent The Yankees opted for the latter but immediately re-signed Gardner to the aforementioned $7.5 million deal. As I understand it, the move saves the Yankees $3 million...

The New York Yankees want starting pitching. This is no secret. Brian Cashman said in the end-of-the-season press conference that starting pitching would be a point of emphasis this offseason. It was the biggest single roster hole for the Yankees this year. It’s also not a unique position to be in. Just about every team in Major League Baseball will spend this offseason trying to bring in reinforcements for their starting rotation, even as we are entering the bullpenning age. The Yankees have two guys who are guaranteed to be in the rotation for next season right now: Luis Severino...
