The offseason is far from finished, but Spring Training is now one month away, and there is a more than zero percent chance that the New York Yankees have completed their major offseason transactions. The team you start the season with is never the team you end the season with, but it is about time we project the opening day lineup if the season were to hypothetically start tomorrow. With Didi Gregorius out and Manny Machado and Bryce Harper seemingly out of the picture, who would be on that Opening Day 25-man crew? This is a long blog, so I'm...

It wasn’t all that big of a surprise, but on Thursday it was reported that reliever David Robertson would leave the Yankees once again to sign a two-year contract (with a team option for a third year) with the Philadelphia Phillies. I’ll miss D-Rob. A lot. As the offseason went on, it seemed like this was inevitable, though. Particularly when you look at the terms for which he signed coupled with how quickly the Yankees wrapped things up with Brett Gardner and CC Sabathia (and JA Happ, if you consider that quick), the fact that D-Rob hadn’t signed yet and...

The Yankees made the JA Happ signing official on Monday, announcing that the organization has signed the 36-year-old southpaw to a 2 year deal with a vesting option for the third year in 2021. The full terms of the contract have not yet been announced, at the time of this writing, but we had heard when they agreed to the terms last week that it was 2 years, $34M ($17M per year) and it would be another $17 million if the contract vests. I’ll assume those remain the terms. The third year will likely vest as long as Happ maintains...

Ken Rosenthal made a rare blunder this morning when he reported that the Yankees and free agent lefty JA Happ had come to an agreement on a three-year deal. He soon backtracked saying that they seemed to be heading in that direction, but nothing is yet decided. There's been kind of a flurry of conflicting reports on this thing. We heard that Happ and the Yankees are close and it's inevitable and we've also heard that Happ has several offers and whoever caves on offering him the third year of a deal will earn his services. It's been a really...

Tuesday afternoon, Patrick Corbin agreed to a contract with the Washington Nationals that is worth an astonishing $140 million over the course of six years. Whether or not there are opt-outs involved is yet to be announced, at the time of this writing. The Yankees, long assumed to be the favorites to land the 29-year-old southpaw, reportedly would not extend their offer beyond five years, with Jon Heyman reporting that the Yanks’ official offer was five years and $100 million. For an extra year and $40 million more, I can’t blame Corbin for picking the Nats and not taking a...
